We're looking for social workers and other counseling providers (e.g. psychologists, guidance counselors, peer recovery specialists, interns, etc.) who are interested in learning and implementing the PRJ method.

What is Positive Recovery Journaling?

Positive Recovery Journaling, or PRJ, is a brief written therapeutic practice that combines aspects of existing interventions. More specifically, clarification exercises, positive psychological activities, and behavioral activation practices. Click here to learn more!

Basic eligibility criteria

Who we're looking for:

We're looking for social workers or other providers (e.g. psychologists, nurses, physicians, teachers, guidance counselors, peer recovery specialists, sober living house managers, or similar professions/occupations) who regularly provide at least some counseling to clients. 

  • 18 years or older
  • Interested in learning PRJ 
  • Agree to practice and teach PRJ according to the training and treatment manual
  • Written organizational commitment allowing the provider to use PRJ at their facility
  • Willing to participate in study activities

If space becomes limited, priority will be given to individuals who: 

  • Practice in Minnesota
  • Serve rural communities
  • Serve clients with substance use disorders 
  • Will use PRJ in a group setting 

What happens if I join the study?

If you decide to participate in the study:

You’ll attend a training program to learn about Positive Recovery Journaling and how to use Positive Recovery Journaling with clients at your facility. The training program is 4.5 hours and will take place online or in person over 1-2 days. 

Throughout the study you will be asked to complete feedback questionnaires, which will help us learn how to improve the training program. 

 

We will provide you with everything you need to be successful, including weekly agendas, PowerPoint slides to structure each session, and a box of journals to cover you and each of your clients.

Is compensation provided?

Participants have two options for compensation for their time and effort: 

  • Up to 17.5 CEUs and up to $100 in gift cards -- or --
  • $260 in gift cards

You'll also receive a box of up to 10 PRJ journals for your clients.

 

Who is conducting the study?

This study is being conducted by Amy R. Krentzman, MSW, PhD, at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work. Dr. Krentzman conducts research on addiction recovery with a current focus on the ways in which Positive Recovery Journaling supports recovery.
